Backing is carried in the ByteID, not in a market price.
A mint registers the fiat deposit — rail, currency, amount, reference, BIC/IBAN and the actual MT103 / pacs.008 text — and folds that payload into an L0 ByteID. recover(byteid) returns the exact payload back out. The identifier is deterministic (the same deposit always yields the same ByteID) and content-bound (a one-dollar change yields a completely different one), so the tie between a minted coin and the fiat behind it can be re-derived and checked by anyone holding the deposit details. The oracle additionally signs keccak(deposit_id), amount_cents, recipient, and a reference derived from the deposit is written on-chain as the mint transaction ref argument.

How redemption works. burnForRedemption on the escrow takes custody of the token via transferFrom — it never calls burn(). That is why a token with no burn function is still redeemable: approve the escrow, then call it. A holder must always call /preflight and receive ok=true before parting with any token.

Preflight states. READY reserves verified for the amount tested. route OK · low balance the path is wired and working; the tested wallet simply holds less than the test amount. red no route, or the chain could not be reached.
